September 23-29: 

The captivity is over. Never again does Israel go into captivity because of idol worship, but sin doesn’t end. Resettlement begins, Fulfilling specific fore-mentioned prophecies, Cyrus sends an envoy back to Jerusalem to begin rebuilding. Haggai prophesies. Zechariah promises a better temple - the Messiah! Ezra refuses royal escorts; he fasts and prays and relies on God for safety.

Sept. 30-October 6:

God makes provision for His people in Persia (modern-day Iran) through people He chose and put in place “for such a time as this”. The Jews triumph and there is much rejoicing! The rebuilding continues at government expense. (King Artaxerxes mentioned in Ezra 4 is Esther’s stepson.)    Opposition continues, but the wall is finished. Gibeonites and the family of Recab are among the wall-rebuilders! You’ll begin reading the Psalms of Ascent used by the Israelites as they travel to Jerusalem for yearly feasts.
